1.5.4 - Krypton Kr

Krypton (Greek word Kryptos = hidden) is heavier than air. The gas incolourless, odourless and non toxic. Krypton suffocates. It is obtained as a byproduct of oxygen manufacture through fractionating and desorption with activated charcoal. Krypton finds its principal technical application in the light bulb industry. One million litres of air contains about 1 litre of krypton, sufficient for filling 15 bulbs. In addition, krypton is a filling gas for Geiger counters.
