New Code of Practice makes HACCP Easy for the Food Industry

In conjunction with the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) has introduced a new code of practice to help food manufacturers comply with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations regarding the use of compressed air in the food industry.

HACCP procedures were introduced by the 852/2004 European Regulation to establish good practice throughout the food supply chain in a ‘Farm to Table’ process.

The new industry driven code of practice sets out recommendations that cover all aspects of compressed air quality including humidity and microbiological contamination in line with levels specified by ISO 8573.1, the international standard for air quality. It significantly identifies the air purity requirements for compressed air for both contact and non-contact applications.

Food manufacturers may have concerns that the new code will lead to cost increases if they are forced to source new equipment to meet higher compressed air quality requirements.
